Webdesk, TNI Coochbehar, 12th August, 2017: Most of the wards of Coochbehar went under water due to heavy rains and the breakage of log gate in the Torsa River dam at Hazrapara. Soon after the breakage, the water rushed into Coochbehar urban areas.

Local tried hard to stop the flow but failed. The water entered into the areas like Ghughumari, Shutkabari, Moyamari areas and worsened the flood situation. The villages on the banks of Singhimari river got inundated. The Dharala river water entered the villages like Jaridharala, Duribal etc. People from these areas have to take shelter in the adjoining Bangladesh. The situation in Mathabhanga and Mekhliganj is worsening gradually. The Block administration is trying hard to help the people in distress.
